How IELTS Band Score is Calculated
Your overall band score is the average of your four individual test section scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking), rounded to the nearest whole or half band.
IELTS Rounding Rules:
- If the average ends in .25, it rounds up to the next half band
- If the average ends in .75, it rounds up to the next whole band
- If the average is less than .25, it rounds down to the whole band
Example:
L: 7.0 + R: 6.5 + W: 6.0 + S: 7.0 = 26.5 ÷ 4 = 6.625 → Overall Band: 6.5
